The Nebraska Grocery Distinguished Service Award is presented annually by the Nebraska Grocery Industry Association to an individual from the grocery industry who is an active member of the Association, deeply involved in their community, and serves as a role model within the industry.
The 2026 Distinguished Service Award is proudly presented to Marlene Hytrek, founder of The Brenmar Company, Inc. Established in 1988, Brenmar has grown into a nationally recognized wholesale distributor of food packaging, retail supplies, and general merchandise serving grocery and foodservice businesses. Based in La Vista, Nebraska, the company is known for its expansive product range and strong commitment to customer service.
In addition to her business leadership, Marlene has been a longtime board member, volunteer, and donor to NGIA. A respected leader in the grocery community, her vision and dedication have helped build a company that supports retailers and contributes meaningfully to Nebraska’s economy.
Marlene is the proud mother of four children—Steve, Kevin, Brenda, and Brian—and grandmother to ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Outside of her professional accomplishments, she enjoys yard work, exploring new restaurants, following the cattle industry, and participating in an investment group with friends. She also treasures time spent in Atkinson, Nebraska, where she owns part of the farm she grew up on and continues to stay actively involved in its work.
Marlene has also been a valued member of GROW Nebraska since November 2020, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting Nebraska-based businesses and strengthening the state’s entrepreneurial and retail ecosystem.
The Nebraska Grocery Industry Association congratulates Marlene Hytrek on being named the 2026 Distinguished Service Award recipient and extends its sincere appreciation for her leadership, service, and lasting impact on the industry.
